Re-Kon: The Naka-Kon Reunion

May 9, 2012 at 5:53 PM

Looking for something to do this summer? Miss your friends from Naka-Kon? Join us on July 7, 2012 at Shawnee Mission Park's Shelter 1 - rain or shine! Shelter 1 is located on 79th Street just inside the park's east entrance. Please be sure to RSVP on Facebook if you plan to come!

THIS EVENT HAS A COVER FEE OF $5, which includes one hot dog and one hamburger (or Boca burger) for each attendee, in addition to two beverages (Mountain Dew, Coke, Gatorade, or bottled water). Any extra money (after paying for food and park fees) will go toward making Naka-Kon even better for 2013.

*** If you're a vegetarian and would like Boca Burgers, please post on the Facebook event's wall so we make sure to buy enough. ***

Please be sure to bring snacks of any kind, as Naka-Kon will NOT be providing side dishes.

You can also help out by bringing games, Nerf guns, water guns and any other outdoor equipment that is easy to clean up after. We have also gotten a permit for water balloons this year! Please pick up after yourself, though! We don't want to ruin chances of having them in the future. (For a full list of park rules, see http://jcprd.com/parks_facilities/regulations.cfm).

*** PLEASE NOTE: Last year, we had a few attendees who began to overheat due to the extremely warm temperatures we often have in Kansas during the summer. Please be sure that if you do cosplay, you plan to wear a cool costume that you will not overheat in. Also, please note that bringing water guns is greatly encouraged because of this. ***

*** RULES ***
1. Don't be stupid.
2. Pick up your trash.
3. No badge = no food. (We'll give out "badges" when you pay your entry fee.)
4. No water balloon combat in the shelter.
5. No water gun combat in the shelter.
6. Don't involve noncombatants in water fights.
7. No water fights for girls in white shirts.
8. No scaring the normies!
9. Don't be stupid.

Hope to see you there!

Naka-Kon 2012 Tabletop Campaigns

January 23, 2012 at 11:07 PM

Naka-Kon will be hosting the following tabletop campaigns:

Friday: D20 Modern Campaign
Setup Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Game Session: 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Target Experience Level: Beginner/Intermediate (advanced players still welcome); characters will begin at Level 3
Synopsis:

"The year is 2156. 'Governments' no longer exist in accordance with political ideologies, social theories or ethnic divisions; economic, military and political power have all been consolidated into the hands of megacorporations. Laws, such as they are, no longer center around maintaining social order and now exist solely for the benefit of those megacorporations that bother to establish them. As such, 'morality' is a thing of the past: anything goes, as long as the price is right. If there is one good thing left in the world, it is that technology is now accessible to a degree unimaginable a century ago. Cybernetics, once considered the realm of science fiction, are now a part of everyday life, blurring the line between man and machine. In this fast-and-loose world driven by technology, greed and violence, only one thing is certain: anything is possible, if the price is right....."

This game is intended to be a cyber-noir experience. The emphasis of technology over more 'traditional' fantasy elements allows for a modern feel to the story and pacing.

Saturday: Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Campaign
Setup Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
First Game Session: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Second Game Session: 10:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Target Experience Level: Intermediate/Advanced (for both sessions); characters will begin at Level 8

Synopsis:

"Some say that the world has never been divided into 'good' and 'evil', that when the world was forged from the fires of the gods, it was born 'gray' and 'neutral'. Others argue that 'good' and 'evil' are just clever stories devised by the powerful to help keep the masses in line: a way to encourage the compliant and vilify the dissenters. The world, for its part, offers no clear answers. Kingdoms wage wars for lands and power. The vast natural powers of the Wild, guarded by those who commune with Gaia, struggle violently with those who believe in the power of industry and 'progress'. The students of the arcane delve deep into the reaches of the Nether, discovering knowledge that some claim 'mere mortals' should never learn, heedless of the words outsiders. With all the world seeking to further their own interests, whatever they may be, one force sits, watching and waiting. Its soldiers know no fear, its champions know no equal. Forged in the fires of war from an amalgamation of peoples, it has the power to alter the course of the world - and it is preparing to act. However, none know what path it shall follow, for its leaders keep counsel with no one....."

This campaign is rooted in traditional fantasy: wizards and sorcerers of all kinds, knights and brigands, sentient nonhuman races and the like. Players may be asked to make decisions that will challenge their characters' motivations and convictions.
