Anime Clue

Welcome, Detective. We need your help again: we have another unsolved murder on our hands! Hyatt, the lovable Junior Officer of ACROSS has died! She met her end shortly after checking in to the Hyatt Regency, but this time it was not her fault. A suspicious character was seen fleeing the scene, an unknown weapon in hand. We need you to track this vicious criminal down and arrest him. Go to contest registration to receive your tools and information. Good luck!

Directions:

  • You will be given a clue check sheet with which to mark off your suspicions, a few of which will already be marked off with the information the faculty has already discovered.
  • You must then travel from designated volunteer to volunteer and make a guess (Lt. Colonel Armstong in Showing Room A with the Frying Pan) where the volunteer will try to prove you wrong.
  • You will then continue around to the other stations, repeating guesses and making new ones until you believe you have solved the case.
  • Return to Contest Registration and present your guess.
  • If no one has discovered the perpetrator by the specified time, then he/she escapes and all detectives lose their licenses.

Rules:

  • Each player/group may only present a guess to each volunteer once every 10 minutes. In other words you can’t stand there and make guesses to see all of their cards.
  • You may only make two accusations (final guesses). After that, you lose your license.

Art Show

Pull those dusty images off of your hard drives. Drag those paintings out of storage. Sketches and doodles are ready to run rampant. We have an art show to complete! Bring your greatest accomplishments to the Vendor’s Room Art Show. Display your genius or compete for fabulous prizes!

Rules:

  • Works of art must be the original work of the entrant.
  • All works of art must be kept PG-13.
  • Works may be no larger than 4 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet (the size of a small person).
  • Works may be of any medium; however, there is a limit to how much space is available for 3D works. Space will be given on a first come, first served basis.
  • Artists are responsible for bringing their works to the show and removing them afterwards. Naka-Kon is NOT responsible for their care.
  • If an aritst wishes their work to be submitted in the art contest, they must register each piece at Contest Registration.

Schedule:

  • The art show will be taking place all weekend. Please bring your works of art to the vendor’s room before it opens on Friday or Saturday. Art will NOT be accepted during vendor room hours. Artwork pick-up will take place on Sunday after the Vendor’s room closes. If an earlier pick-up time is necessary, please speak with someone at Contest Registration for an escort.

Do Your Own Dub

Think you’re funny? Can’t stand the characters’ dialogue? Think you’d make a good voice actor? Come to the Do Your Own Dub contest and have fun! You can either enter by yourself or with a group of friends (though keep in mind that the prize is usually not something easily split). Tell us what the characters are really saying!

Waiting:

  • Please remain quiet while someone is recording. Background noise is tricky to remove.

Recording:

  • Each clip will be one minute in length.
  • Each individual/group will have TWO takes to perfect their dub. After those two takes, they must go to the end of the line if they wish to rerecord.

Rules:

  • When performing your own parody skit, remember to keep the language PG-13 or below. If you grandmother scold you for it, it is probably inappropriate. No inappropriate language will be tolerated, however made up words like "hotskaboble" may be used as replacements.

Iron Fic

Are you prepared for the battle of your life? Break your pens and pencils out of storage, because Iron Fic Naka-Kon is back! Join us for two grueling hours of creative writing tension. Can you make your fanfiction stand the tallest and be named Iron Fic Champion?

Karaoke Contest

Break out the music, turn up the tenor and find the microphones! The time has come to strut your stuff and belt out your favorite tunes for prizes.

Rules:

  • Songs must of Japanese Origin. This includes songs from anime, songs sung by a Japanese band, songs with Japanese Lyrics, etc.
  • Songs may be no longer than 5:30. A leeway of 15 seconds may be given if requested.
  • Songs must contain lyrics in at least 75% of the song.
  • Songs must not contain swear words in any language.
  • Songs must be on the karaoke list or sent in at least 24 hours before the contest takes place. We will not be removing vocals on site this year.
  • Singers must memorize song lyrics to be eligible for the Best Lyrical Knowledge prize.
  • If you have not memorized your song, you must bring your own lyrics.

If you are unsure if your song meets the criteria for the contest, e-mail us at contests@naka-kon.com. You may also send song requests or files that need vocals removed.

Project Cosplay

Bring cosplay to the runway... or a model display. If you thought rushing to finish an outfit for the cosplay runway was hard, how hard will it be to do it in miniature? This year the outfits are shrinking to doll size as the challenge makes its way to the BJD crowd. Create a new look for a Ball-Jointed Doll and prove that you can handle any fashion challenge!
