Pros:
Much bigger space for all panels. This was totally awesome, though some panels probably would of done better using a smaller room.
Much larger gaming room. This was beyond awesome in the extra size. The smell of the room was much better this year as well, since it was not as compact.
Also, thanks a lot for having so many open tables for card games. It was impossible to play any card games in last year’s room, so this was a major improvement.
Having so much room for the registration area was also a major plus. I liked how organized the pre-registration lines were. The un-pre lines did seem a bit more chaotic, but that is to be expected.
Welcome back Asylum Anime to the vendors room! This made myself as well as many other individuals that I know very happy
More hotel room availability compared from last year, with the extended dates for registering them.
Kon Supporter badge being a part of the room key was pure win.
Less crowded Venders room.
The panel listings on the boards outside of each panel room. This was awesome.
The kon-book. A LOT of stuff in there that had been suggested throughout the years, I was very glad to see put into the book. I was very happy to see the listings of the restaurants in there, to see a suggestion from 08 put into 2010, along with everything else.
The Staff was awesome for the most part.
Kon Suite. Even though I only visited it once, the concept is still awesome.
The formal Ball. While I am not talented in the form of dancing (yet), I did enjoy myself there and took many great pictures which I never would have had the opportunity to take. For instance, the romantic pic I have of Harley and the Joker. Priceless.
Everyone that allowed people to take their picture. You all are AWESOME.
The honest people at the convention, as well as Lost and Found. I had left my reanimator deck in the gaming room on accident. I had went to eat lunch/dinner before my panel on Saturday and noticed that my deck was missing from my pocket on my return to the convention. I was very worried, as the deck would of taken me a long time to replace and was rather expensive, but thankfully the staff in the gaming room had found it and took it to the lost and found. I do not know if someone gave it to the staff first or not, but if someone did, I thank you greatly.
I felt much more at peace at this year’s convention than I did at 09. Last year just did not settle well with me.
Singled out Otaku, epic. Need more time, contestants, and possible questions, as no one ever asked the crossplay question... still wondering what the question would of been... <_<
Edit: Forgot to add this while I had thought of it while typing... silly forgetfulness. lol
Reinburstment of time for panelists. A MAJOR pro. ^__^
Yaoi guy not yelling in the vendors room.
Yaoi guy's partner in sales there with Yuri as well. (though didn't check any of the hentai at the con this year.
Cons:
Late Vender/Artist approval. The outcry on the forums alone is testament to this.
U shape for artist alley. To me, this seemed to cause much unneeded confusion as to how to get from point A to point B.
Need more vendors/artists, especially artists. Most of what I buy in the dealers room is artist drawings.
Closing of the Cosplay Contest area, as well as the stage being so far away from the back of the room. I only spent a few moments in there, but that leads me to my next con…
Staff telling people to move to the wall when the person they are telling them to is explaining that they are just looking for someone and do not intend on staying in the cosplay contest room, especially when there was NO traffic going anywhere nearby. When trying to find someone, this means either the person is planning on sitting near the person or is planning on trying to get a hold of them to do something else. This is the only complaint I personally had with the staff.
Lack of basic common sense in some situations, from what I have read from many other people’s complaints. It is true that there are rules and they are there for a reason, but common sense should still apply. I do not know the circumstances of why the one persons badge was ripped in half, but if the staff member had the opportunity to gain possession of the badge, then the staff member could have taken it to the information desk or to the exec section, or called security if the person was being obnoxious.
The autograph line. It was long and not moving, I’m glad that I decided not to partake in it.
No mature showing in mature showing panels. The hotel should have notified the convention committee way before Friday. One of the staffers said it was their fault but I disagree. The hotel had 11 months to present their case/banning of such materials. They waited till they had hold on the money before they stated anything. One of the greatest things about Naka, that has made other people jealous of my attendance was that the fact that Naka allowed hentai and many of the conventions that many of my peers can attend do not allow it. Being the humble pervert that I am, (and even though I do not enjoy all of the hentai, even what I was going to be presenting in the amv hell /0…), it is still a part of culture and art that should not of been violated the way the hotel violated it.
Cosplay stuff taking almost the entire day… Twas not interested in waiting so long to watch the cosplay contest due to length. I understand that there are probably plenty of more contestants each year, as the attendance grows in numbers by around 800+ a year, but still… too much waiting for me… ADD and all.
If I can think of any more down the road, I will update, but for now, this is the main list I have for the pros and cons of this years Naka. I hope you enjoyed/agree/disagree/don't hate me for this. ^__^'
I would also like to point out that I did not attend any of the not a raves, did not attend the musical guests, and did not go to too many panels nor see the guests, so I have no comments on any of those to give.
Mike
