Konichiwa, everyone! My name is Jade Joyce, also known as Jaded Shadows. I am so excited to help at this year’s Naka-Kon. I have been attending Naka-Kon since 2005, and am truly grateful to be a part of something that has brought me so much personal joy. I have been making costumes since I was a little girl on my grandma’s knee and have won various awards through the years, including Naka-Kon Best in Show 2016 (Steampunk Chi), Naka-Kon Best Workmanship 2010 (Canti from FLCL), Best Workmanship Runner-Up 2015 (Eva Mermaid from Pet Shop of Horrors), and a couple of Judge’s Pick awards.
I have won costume contests at Anime Festival Wichita (Galaxia from Sailor Moon and Hero from Spectral Force) and the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, as well as winning the Weston Wellie Race Costume Contest three years in a row. In 2016, I was an Audience Pick at Planet Comicon for my She-Hulk cosplay. I have appeared on Channel 5 News, and several times in the Midwest Irish Focus. In December, I dressed as Elsa from Frozen, and along with Santa took free pictures and handed out candy at a local Walmart.
I love cosplay; it’s so varied, and the inspiration it can stir is wonderful. I look forward to seeing all the great costumes and having the chance to interact with so many that share this creative outlet.
I’ll see you all at Naka-Kon 2017!
