Sew-a-long with the head pattern maker of CUT/SEW in this workshop inspired by traditional Japanese furoshiki knotting! Together we’ll be making a “knot bag”, or a simple tote bag with an easy knot closure, perfect for small items like cell phones, cosmetics, or trinkets picked up at the con. Learn about the history of Japanese sewing and bag making while we work together in a cozy, relaxed environment. All students will get to take home their finished bag, as well as printed instructions on how to recreate the project at home.
This class is open to participants 16 years of age or older. Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. A liability waiver will also need to be signed.
In this workshop you'll learn:
- Basic machine sewing
- How to sew curved areas
- Basic hand stitching techniques
- A brief history of Japanese bag making
- Participating students will be entered into a drawing to win one of the Bernette sewing machines used in the class, as well as two free digital patterns from CUT/SEW! The machine and patterns will be given away to a student attending closing ceremonies on Sunday at-Kon.
