Hello! For those looking for hotel rooms, we have some good news. A limited number of rooms are now available to book at the Sheraton Hotel and Holiday Inn. These will likely go fast, so jump to them as soon as possible.

Additional updates, the room block at our overflow hotels, Hilton Garden Inn and Marriott Courtyard Metcalf, is sold out. The Marriott Courtyard Convention Center can also be considered sold out as rooms with convention rates are only available for Sunday nights.

If we don’t reach $100,000, does that mean Naka-Kon 2022 is canceled?

Absolutely not! We’re still on board and set for a stellar 2022 show. While we’ve got an attendee cap as well as some changes in programming, we’re still going to have a full schedule with a lot of your favorite Naka-Kon events such as the dance party, cosplay contest, charity ball, and ticketed events.

Then why do you need so much?

Greetings, Nakama — for those who are still awaiting rollover codes, we apologize that we were not able to send all the codes by the December 31 deadline we posted last week. Unfortunately, the staff member leading the effort had to temporarily step away to take care of unexpected personal matters. We all wish that staffer well.

Here is where we stand with registration as of today, January 5, 2022:

Hey Nakama,

We’ve been waiting to get all our foxes in a row before making our announcements, so we have a BUNCH of items to cover with you today. Please read everything closely!

November 30, 2021

Greetings, Nakama — We hope everyone's holiday season is off to a great start. As we reflect, we are very thankful for all the people involved in making Naka-Kon possible each year and the support to celebrate Japanese pop culture and art.

Today, we have an important message that we would like to share with everyone. To be candid, the permanent closure of Naka-Kon is a real possibility that we are facing.

September 20, 2021

Hello everyone, we apologize for the belated post. We want to take this time to express our gratitude to everyone who was part of Naka-Kon 2021. When we canceled Naka-Kon 2020 and postponed Naka-Kon 2021 from March to September, we were very close to ceasing operations. Attendees, vendors, artists, donors, sponsors, convention center staff, the City of Overland Park, and all the hard-working volunteers – you were all vital in helping this convention survive and enabling us to host Naka-Kon 2021.

September 3, 2021

Nakama, as previously mentioned, this year we will be sharing our space with a number of other groups, so while we encourage you to enjoy the convention, please be respectful of the other non-convention attendees who will be using some of our usual programming and lounge space.

-Naka-Kon only has rights to the convention center side, so other events happening in the Sheraron Hotel are unaffiliated with Naka-Kon. These groups have the rights to the spaces they are using.

This year we are going digital with the program book. That's right it'll be right on your phone or tablet. And what's even cooler is you can install a version to your device and it'll be accessible even without internet access!

We at Naka-Kon are always watching for the latest guidance to keep all of our attendees safe. With the rise of the vaccine-resistant and more contagious Delta and Lambda variants of COVID-19, we are making preparations in anticipation of more stringent regulations from the county, state, or federal governments.

We have been blown away by your enthusiasm, and we regret to inform you that the Sheraton hotel room block is now sold out.

We would like to provide you all with additional details on why it sold out quickly. As we noted, our hotel room block was limited this year. This was due to other private groups having their own room blocks during the Labor Day weekend, and Sheraton is also scheduled to undergo room renovations this coming summer.
